TEHRAN – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday advised the newly-elected MPs to maintain their independence in making decisions under the Constitution.

In a meeting with the eighth Majlis lawmakers, Ayatollah Khamenei said the parliament must approve comprehensive, straightforward, unalterable, and persistent laws which are implementable in various situations and are aimed at resolving people’s problems.
Legislation is of high importance for the Islamic Republic which has forged a new path for the mankind, the Supreme Leader observed.
He called for unity and coordination among the three government branches in the face of the enemies’ efforts to undermine the Islamic system.
“Fomenting discord among the branches and penetrating their integrated structure … is the great and historic objective of the enemies of Islam and the Iranian nation…which is being pursued secretly but seriously.”
Monitoring the performance of other government branches is another important duty of the Majlis which should be carried out without creating conflicts among them, Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
He appreciated the previous parliament for its efforts in preventing tension within the society and called on the new lawmakers to “regard cooperation with the cabinet as a principle”
